Recorderly vs POV.camera vs a local videographer
These are not the same product. POV.camera is an app: guests scan a code, upload from their phones, and everyone sees the pool instantly. It is free for events under ten people, and business pricing is quoted by guest count rather than published. Nothing ships and nothing gets edited. Recorderly is $395 to have editors cut your footage into a film, or $795 for four 4K cameras with mics. If you want a shared album, use POV. If you want a film, you still need someone to make one.

Where Recorderly beats POV.camera
- You get a film. POV gives you a folder. Somebody still has to watch six hours of phone clips and cut them together, and that somebody is you.
- Real cameras, charged, with a mic on each. Phone footage is vertical, shaky and dies at 40% battery halfway through the reception.
- No app. Nothing for a 70-year-old guest to download, sign into, or give permissions to.
- 4K files and separate mic audio, not phone-compressed uploads.

Where a videographer beats both
- Someone is guaranteed to be pointing a camera at the ceremony. Guest cameras are a probability, not a promise.
- Low light, long lenses and fast movement. A dark church at 7pm is where consumer cameras give up and a professional body does not.
- A contract, liability insurance and backup gear. If something fails at 4pm, that is their problem to solve, not yours.
- Directed coverage. You can ask for specific shots, in a specific order, and get them.

When you want a film, not a folder
Editing is the work. If nobody in your family is going to sit down and cut six hours of phone clips — and nobody is — then a collection app leaves the job undone.
When a shared album is the whole goal
Small event, tight budget, everyone wants the photos and clips that night. Free under ten guests, and cheap above it. Nothing here needs shipping or planning.
When the ceremony cannot be missed
Neither an app nor a box of cameras guarantees coverage of the moment that happens once. A hired professional does.

Is POV.camera free?
It is free for personal events under ten guests as part of the trial. Larger and business events are priced through a calculator by guest count and the figures are not published on the site, so you have to request them.
Does POV.camera edit the footage?
No. It collects what guests upload and shares it back as a pool. There is no human edit and no finished film. Recorderly's $395 editing-only package exists to do exactly that part.
Can I use POV.camera and Recorderly together?
Yes, and it is a sensible combination. Collect everything through POV during the event, then send the files to Recorderly's editing-only package and get a three to five minute edited film back. No kit ships in either direction.
Do guests need to install an app?
For POV.camera, yes for personal events, or the web app for business events. Recorderly requires no app at all: the cameras record to their own memory cards and nothing needs pairing, downloading or signing into.
Is phone footage good enough for a wedding film?
It can be, and our editing-only package is built for it. The trade-offs are real though: phone footage is vertical by default, the audio is whatever the phone mic caught across a loud room, and batteries tend to fail around the point the party gets good.
Which one covers speeches better?
Recorderly, because of the wireless clip-on mics. A phone across a room, uploaded through an app, will show you the speech but rarely let you hear it. That is the single most common regret we hear about guest-filmed video.
