Sweet 16 · Her friends, her night

Her friends will film it anyway. Give them something that looks good

Sixteen-year-olds are already filming everything — just at 480p, sideways, in the dark. Our cameras shoot 4K, hold steady, and see in low light. Same instinct, footage worth keeping.

Why guests, not a crew

Phones fail in exactly the room a Sweet 16 happens in

Low light, a DJ rig strobing, a hundred people moving. That is the hardest thing you can hand a phone camera, and it's every Sweet 16 ever thrown. Her friends are going to film all night either way — the only open question is whether any of it is watchable in the morning.

Who should hold a camera: Hand them out at the door and don't manage it. Sixteen-year-olds direct themselves better than any brief you could write. Keep one back for a parent, because nobody under seventeen is going to film the grandparents.

What tends to end up in the film
  • The getting-ready room, which is loud
  • The entrance, filmed by people screaming
  • The dad dance nobody was ready for
  • The bathroom-mirror group shot at 11pm
  • The friends who talk to the camera like it's a diary

Your guests get a plan, not a lecture

Every sweet 16 kit ships with table cards that explain the camera in one sentence and name six things worth pointing it at. Her friends won't read them. They're there so the entrance, the speeches and the candle ceremony get covered by somebody who will.

Four hundred clips from teenagers, one film

The getting-ready room, the entrance, the dad dance, the talking-to-camera bits at midnight. It all comes back to us and our editors keep the twenty moments that still hold up once the night is over.

★★★★★

I expected chaos. It is chaos, but the edit made it feel like a movie about her friend group. She sent it to everyone within an hour of getting it.

Priced by cameras, not hours. Most sweet sixteens book four, because the getting-ready room and the party are two separate films and she'll want both. The four-camera kit is also the one that comes with a vertical sixty-second cut. Already have your own footage? We just edit that.

What you’re comparing it against. A videographer for a day like this runs $2,300 to $4,000 — that’s the US wedding average from The Knot and Zola, and the closest published benchmark there is. Four cameras, four mics, shipping both ways and the edited film is $795.

If there isn't enough footage, you don't pay for the film. If the kit comes back without enough usable material to cut a film, we refund your order minus a 20% restocking fee on the package price — the kit was held and shipped for a date we couldn't rent to anyone else. Add-ons are refunded in full. It's rare, and we show you what came back before we make that call.
Questions

Sweet 16 specifics

The venue is dark with a DJ light rig going. Will anything be usable?

That's the condition these are built for and the exact condition a phone fails in. Low light and a moving light rig are what produce the smeared, grainy, half-black clips that end up in a group chat. You'll still want one camera near the entrance or the cake table where there's some ambient light.

Teenagers film everything vertically. Is that a problem?

No — the camera orients itself, so it records the right way up regardless of how it's being held. The four-camera kit also comes with a sixty-second vertical cut of the finished film, which is the version she'll actually want, so the horizontal habit isn't something you need to teach anyone.

She'll want something to post that night.

You won't have it that night, and it's worth saying so upfront. The edit takes three weeks on the four-camera kit from when the case reaches us. If the timing matters — a birthday post, a school thing — add the rush edit at checkout and tell us the date you need it by.

Getting ready is at our house, the party is at a venue.

Split them. Two cameras stay at the house for the getting-ready room, which is loud and usually funnier than the party, and all four go to the venue afterwards. There's nothing to set up at either end — no power, no rigging, nothing the venue needs to know about.

Do we have to tell the venue or the DJ?

No. There's no equipment to load in, no stands, no power draw and nobody standing in a doorway with a rig. From the venue's side, some of your guests are holding small cameras. It's the reason this works in rooms that won't accommodate a second videographer.
