We looked at action cameras, disposables and phone rigs. We ship the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 because it's the only one that survives being handed to someone at a party who has had two drinks and no instructions.

Why this one
Built for someone who isn't a videographer
The whole model falls apart if guests find the camera confusing. Every choice below serves that one constraint.
- The gimbal is mechanical, so shaky hands and dance floors still cut together
- The screen rotates, so nobody has to think about horizontal or vertical
- It focuses itself, and the 1-inch sensor holds up once the lights go down
- It sleeps on its own, so a camera left on a table doesn't drain by dessert
- At 179 grams it disappears in a pocket, which is when people stop performing
- Charging is USB-C, so a dead camera is back out after one course of dinner

- Sensor
- 1-inch CMOS, roughly 9.4 effective megapixels. The reason footage from a dim reception still looks like footage and not noise.
- Video
- Up to 4K at 120fps. We deliver at 4K/60 — 120 is reserved for the slow-motion cuts.
- Stabilization
- Three-axis mechanical gimbal. Not software smoothing — an actual motorized head, which is why a guest walking across a dance floor looks intentional.
- Screen
- 2-inch rotating touchscreen. Turn it and the camera switches between horizontal and vertical on its own.
- Audio
- Three microphones, stereo, with wind-noise reduction. Speeches stay usable from across a room.
- Battery
- 166 minutes per charge by DJI's rating — measured at 1080p/24 with the screen and Wi-Fi off, so treat it as a ceiling. Plan on 90–120 minutes of real 4K use. Every kit ships with a battery handle and a dock.
- Charging
- 16 minutes to 80% over USB-C. A camera can go back out mid-event after one course of dinner.
- Storage
- microSD, up to 512GB per camera. We supply and format the cards — guests never see one.
- Size and weight
- 139.7 × 42.2 × 33.5 mm, 179 g. Jacket pocket, clutch, back pocket.
- Tracking
- ActiveTrack. Point it at a person and it keeps them in frame while whoever's holding it looks somewhere else.
On battery life: you'll see "166 minutes" quoted everywhere, including by us above. That figure is measured at 1080p/24fps with the screen and Wi-Fi switched off. Nobody films a party that way. Budget 90–120 minutes of real recording per charge — which is why a battery handle and a charging dock are in every kit rather than sold as an upgrade.
Care and damage
Things break at parties
- DropsExpected and covered. These get handed between forty people — we don't charge for normal wear
- WaterNot waterproof. Rain, pools and salt water will end a camera, and that one is chargeable
